Neorenaissance style and features
The Neorenaissance came about around 1885 and drew inspiration from the architecture of the Golden Age, the Dutch Renaissance. The renewed interest in this architecture came at a time of economic prosperity, which was linked to industrialisation. Characteristics of the Dutch Neorenaissance are ornate door frames and bricks, gate decorations and wall anchors. It is said that the property was commissioned by two teachers who taught at the small school further down the road. There is still a picture of the two ladies sitting in front of the house.
’s-Graveland, which is part of the municipality of Wijdemeren, is also referred to as ‘the pearl of the Central Region of The Netherlands,’ In the surroundings you can find countless footpaths and cycle paths among the heath, the meadows, the woods, the waterways and the various estates. Ideal for sailing, canoeing, skating and swimming... There are excellent restaurants on the waterfront and the unique tea garden ‘Sperwershof’ is well worth visiting. A little further down the road there is a listed church in which high-level performances take place. The visitor centre / main office of Natuurmonumenten (Nature Organisation) also regularly organizes activities.
The location is central as ’s-Graveland is both on the N201 and the N236. These roads grant easy access to Amsterdam and Utrecht. There is a bus connection through ’s-Graveland from Hilversum station to Bussum station.
We are proud to invite you to come and view this charming house and to experience its unique atmosphere for yourself.
